What does CSA stand for?
The acronym CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is an alternative, locally based economic model of agriculture and food distribution. A CSA also refers to a particular network, or association of individuals, who have pledged to support one or more local farms, with growers and consumers sharing the risks and benefits of food production. The concept behind this agricultural economic model is to support small local farms within your community while reaping the benefit of local, fresh, organic produce delivered right to your door.
CSA members typically pay a membership fee at the onset of the growing season for a share of the anticipated harvest; once harvesting begins, they periodically receive shares of produce. In addition to produce, some CSA services may include additional farm products like honey, eggs, preserves, fruit, flowers, and meat/ dairy products.
Basically, fresh, local, organically grown produce delivered to your door. What's better than that!?
